JUNIOR HIGH PROGRAMS

Crestwood Junior High offers Academic Alternative and Gifted & Talented programming.

We have core programming that develops interdisciplinary connections through inquiry and project-based instruction designed to enhance and broaden curricular outcomes.

We offer French as a Second Language for all students in junior high. Students have a choice of Band, Art or Outdoor Education for their option course.

Each year there are three seperate weeks of complementary courses, where students take a course of their choosing. Past options have included Cooking, Film Studies, Math and Science at West Edmonton Mall, Coding, Skiing and many more.

ACADEMIC ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM (GR 7-9) 2024/25

The Academic Alternative Program is for junior high students who meet entrance criteria prior to entering the program in Grade 7.  Application deadline for the Academic Alternative program has now passed. No further applications will be accepted for the 2024/2025 school year.

Crestwood School offers its Gifted and Talented (G&T) Program for students identified as "Gifted and Talented", as coded by their elementary school.  Students coded G&T are eligible to apply to the Program.

The G&T Program presents the curriculum delivered at a challenging pace, allowing us greater instructional time for enrichment activities;  enabling a focus on critical thinking, inquiry, and problem solving;  presenting an environment where teachers encourage students' development of strategies, of a growth mindset, all within a “culture of learning” from mistakes;  and the program presents a lively and productively busy room, where students engage in collaboration, in meaningful debate, in vibrant discussion, in authentic peer feedback, and in goal setting.  There is active questioning by both teachers and by its students!

Interested families already with an EPSB school must express interest for program application through consultation with their current Grade 6 school.  The school will need to SNAP your child to our program. You are not required to complete a portfolio. Schools can complete this process from February 5–16, 2024.

Visit our Gifted and Talented information website for further information.
